The Ministry of Health of Ukraine, in cooperation with the European Commission and other international partners, continues to evacuate affected Ukrainians to specialised clinics in Europe for treatment and rehabilitation.

So far, 4,927 Ukrainians have been evacuated, including patients with mine-blast injuries, those in need of prosthetics, and cancer patients. There are also 690 children with injuries and cancer among them.

So far, more than 30 countries have accepted Ukrainians for treatment: Germany, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, France, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, and others.

Among the leading countries in terms of the number of evacuations for our citizens: Germany - 1,193 people, Poland - 426 people, and Norway - 372 people.

The attending physician or family doctor refers patients for treatment abroad based on established criteria. To confirm compliance with the criteria, a completed form No. 027/о ‘Extract from the medical record of an outpatient (inpatient) patient’ should be requested from the doctor.

According to the evacuation algorithm, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine verifies the data and promptly informs the EU countries and the European Economic Area (EEA) about the need to evacuate Ukrainian citizens through the European Commission's emergency response system. The partners then accept the request of the Ministry of Health and provide proposals for the evacuation of citizens.

You can read the criteria for sending Ukrainians abroad for treatment here.

Currently, there are several routes for medical evacuation for treatment abroad, namely

  • through the regional healthcare department;
  • by submitting a personal application through the website of the Ministry of Health in the ‘Citizens’ section;
  • for military personnel - by applying for evacuation abroad through the command of the Medical Forces of Ukraine.

More information on the specifics of providing medical assistance to affected Ukrainian citizens abroad can be found here
